Five ways to boost your water intake
The beauty secret that stands the test of time for glowing skin, improved digestion and a healthy body? Drink plenty of water.

Here are five ways to up your water intake and reap the many benefits of being well-hydrated every day:

Time Your Intake: If you’re prone to reaching the end of the day and having the stark realisation that the only drink you’ve had all day is coffee,  then consider setting an alarm on your phone to remind you. Aim to consume a litre by lunchtime, another by 3 pm, and the final litre by bedtime. Soon staying well-hydrated will become a daily ritual, no longer needing reminders.

Drink with every meal: A grumbling tummy is a clear reminder to eat something, so why not habit stack each meal time with a big glass of water? This is the easiest and most effective way to increase your water intake, as the majority of us eat three to five meals per day – which equates to nearly half of your recommended daily water intake.

Mix it up: Tired of plain water? We get it. Spruce up your water with fresh fruit or herbs, or have a warming cup of herbal tea. Experiment with different combinations each day and beat boredom for good. Need extra inspiration? Check out our top tips on how to make water more exciting here.

Alternate glasses: A hot tip for young players – alternate a glass of water with every caffeinated or alcoholic beverage you consume. Caffeine and alcohol can be extremely dehydrating on the body, so alternating them with a big glass of water will boost your odds of staying hydrated.

Consume water-rich foods: While pure H20 should comprise around 80 per cent of your daily hydration needs, incorporating water-rich food into your diets is a great way to supplement your intake. Consider fruits and vegetables like cucumber, watermelon, courgette, watercress, lettuce, celery, carrots, tomatoes and apples, all of which have a high water content (some more than 80 per cent water) and will help keep you well hydrated.

Our Drink Up tip: Upon waking, drink two big glasses of water to boost hydration and kickstart your digestive system before you reach for your morning coffee. Try to mindfully note any changes you feel, and your body and mind will absolutely thank you for it.
