Jin Shin Jyutsu finger holding techniques for calm

Jin Shin Jyutsu finger holding techniques for calm
Finding moments for solace and calm every day can be a challenge, especially when it's time to wind down for a restful night's sleep.

While many rituals exist to ease the transition from day to night, one ancient Japanese practice stands out for its simplicity and effectiveness in reducing stress and uplifting the mood anytime and anywhere — its Jin Shin Jyutsu Finger Holding.

Introduced to us by Rhonda and Amy of Ozenity, a simplified self-care app, let's explore the art of Jin Shin Jyutsu Finger Holding, what it is, how to do it, and the remarkable benefits it could offer you.

What is Jin Shin Jyutsu Finger Holding?

Similar to acupressure, finger holding involves using gentle touch on specific areas of the body to balance and restore energy flow. This practice aims to promote harmony in the body, mind, and spirit by harmonising and restoring the natural flow of energy. A subset of Jin Shin Jyutsu, Finger Holding focuses on the fingers as key access points to this energy system.

How to try it?

It's incredibly easy. By merely holding each finger for a few minutes with intention and focus, you can restore balance to your body's energy flow.

As you hold each finger, take deep breaths, acknowledging and releasing any strong emotions. Embrace the pulsing sensation, signifying the movement and balance of energy.

A quick guide to each finger

  • Thumb (trust): Hold your right hand around the thumb or a finger of your left hand. Relax your hands and hold. For optimal results, sit comfortably and close your eyes. This fingerhold instils a sense of trust.

  • Index Finger (peace of mind): Repeat the process with your index finger to evoke peace of mind.

  • Middle Finger (joy): Hold your middle finger to enhance joy in your life.

  • Ring Finger (comfort): For a comforting touch, hold your ring finger.

  • Pinky Finger (truth): Finally, hold your pinky finger to connect with your inner truth.
